Steamed  Winter Gourd

 

I.     Recipe name: Steamed  Winter Gourd

II.     Ingredients:

  1. ½ pound winter gourd*, peeled and thickly sliced
  2. 1 vegetarian chicken leg**, thickly sliced
  3. 6 thick slices vegetarian ham**
  4. 2 stems cilantro leaves or fresh coriander, washed and cut into small sections

III.   Sauce:

  1. 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil

  2. ½ teaspoon salt

  3. 1 teaspoon brown sugar

  4. 2 teaspoons soy sauce

  5. 1 teaspoon sesame oil 

  6. ½ cup water

  7. 1  teaspoon corn starch*

IV.     Directions:

  1. Pan-fry each slice of vegetarian chicken leg until light golden brown.
  2. Place 1 slice vegetarian chicken leg and 1 slice vegetarian ham between the two winter gourd slices.
  3. Steam for 6 minutes.
  4. Cook the starch solution and pour on top of the steamed winter gourd. Sprinkle with cilantro.
  5. Note: the winter gourd can be replaced with pumpkin, hairy cucumbers, or pickling melons.
